Foundation. The money will help to feed over 800 families in the state of OK
during the holidays. See results below.
Second Chance - Oct 11
Our next up coming event will take place Oct. 11. We will be helping Second
Chance Animal Sanctuary for a couple of hours. This will include but not be
limited to helping outside with yard work as well as inside general cleaning and
poop scooping, to brushing & walking the animals. We will also be helping a
couple of seniors with yard work. Depending on the number of volunteers we have,
we might even visit a nursing home and play games, sing songs and interact with
the seniors.
Please let Donna know by Oct. 6th if you plan to join us. We will meet at
8:45 AM and work until about 4:00. We will meet at the Hooper's home for lunch
and devotion, which will be lead by Mallory. If you cannot be with us the whole
time, let Donna know what time frame you will be able to join us so she can let
you know where to meet the group.
Heads-up, Nov. 15 we will be going to Feed the Children. Deadline to sign-up
will be Nov. 10th. Mark you calendars and let Donna know if you are interested.
Finally, a quick up-date from the weekend activity at the Cleveland County
Health Department: We had 13 CAM participants, and 45 OU students from several
campus organizations including Gamma Phi Beta, & Alpha Phi Omega. The Cleveland
County Health Department workers were so impressed with all the volunteers
great attitudes and willingness to jump in and help. The children that came
enjoyed all the games, prizes, and food. This was the first time the Health
Department has ever done something like this. They were pleased and hope to do
it again.
See You At The Pole
See You At The Pole is this Wednesday, Sept. 24th. We would like to encourage
all students to meet around their school flag pole and pray for their school,
community, and nation. In the past they meet 30 minutes before your school
starts. Invite your friends to come join you and be bold for Christ. For more
information on See You At The Pole, see their website:

games. They will be giving away free hotdogs and popcorn.

up-coming details.
Free Local Summer Mission Opportunities
We had a great representation of CAM at the Metropolitan Library this past Sat. We had 17 participants put in 66 hours of volunteer time. We stuffed 4,500 envelopes for their summer reading program. We broke down into teams and had a friendly competition. The Oldies but Goodies (Jerry and Donna) were smearing the pants off all the youngsters. So, after lunch we broke down into different groups and had to change the Oldies but Goodies name! Each group prepared any where from 1000 to 700 packets while having lots of fun talking and singing. The Library was very appreciative of the enthusiastic help. They provided a great lunch and snacks, which we were very appreciative.
I know most of you are gearing up for some summer trips. We hope that you will be able to join us for some of the CAM events that will be taking place.
Below you will find the dates of our Free Local Mission Opportunities:
May 28-31-( Thursday- Saturday) hosted by Cornerstone Kids Ranch in Ada, OK
June 18-21- (Wednesday- Saturday) hosted by Wildwood Community Church , Norman, OK
July 30-August 2- (Wednesday- Saturday) hosted by McFarlin Methodist, Norman, OK
At the first CAMp we will meet about 8 AM on Thursday and head for ADA OK .It takes about 1 ½ hours to get there. We will be helping Cornerstone Kids Ranch prepare for their children’s camps, that will be later in the summer. Two years ago when we helped them, we built a large water slide, put together a panning for gold station, painted fences, weed eat, lots of mowing, cleaned animal stalls ( hold your nose!), cleaned-up the saddles and groomed the horses. It was a lot of hard work, but we also spent some fun time riding the horses, watched a huge firework show, took turns riding in the huge barn swing, and playing on large blow-up games. We had canoe races, and a devotion by the campfire while roasting hotdogs. We will be back to Norman about 8:30 PM on Sat.
The next two CAMps are more of our traditional type of mission outreaches here locally. We will meet on Wed. evening after your youth services are over. The first night we go over all the expectations. Then Thursday- Sat. we get up, have breakfast, and a quiet time in the morning. The youth are broken down into smaller groups and they are at a job site by 9:00 AM. They volunteer until about 3:30-4:00 PM. Then each group will travel to the Norman YMCA to take showers. Afterwards they will go back to the church and have dinner. We will spend some time in praise & worship and then participate in a devotion, which will be lead by one of the youth. We usually have some games and hang time right before going to bed. We try to have everyone in bed by 11:00 PM. The CAMp will conclude by Sat. 8:30 PM.
We help non-profit agencies, widows, hospice patients, as well as seniors. We do a lot of yard work, sorting and cleaning closets. We will re-box food preparing it to ship out to other organizations. We might help prepare and serve a meal to those less fortunate. We will visit with seniors in nursing homes and present games and skits. It can be hard work, but also fun. We will have friendly competitions to help motivate participants. Some of the agencies we will be helping include but not limited to the OKC Regional Food Bank, Feed the Children, East Main Place – a transitional living center, Full Circle Senior Citizen Day Care, Child Share a foster care organization . It is always fun to hear what made an impact in the participants lives each evening. We constantly remind the participants that we are “Putting Skin on the Gospel”. We want to challenge people to work out the walk and not just talk it. What good is being a Christian if you can’t show it.
We do max the CAMps out at 30 -so sign up early. The participants must be out of 6th grade in order to spend the night. We do allow younger kids to come, if parents join them. Everyone must have a parent permission form filled out and NOTARIZED in order to spend the night. Participants have asked me, “Can I come to just part of a CAMp due to conflict in schedule.” That is one good thing about having a local mission… we can work around schedules. The participant must have a parent talk with Donna prior to the camp in order to leave and they must provide their own transportation.
